BRINKMAN TECHNOLOGIES INKS EBPP VAR AGREEMENT WITH SMS
Southeastern Merchant Systems, Inc. to resell BTI's turnkey
"billing by e-mail" system

DALLAS (August 16, 1999)... Brinkman Technologies Inc. (BTI) announced today that Southeastern Merchant Systems (SMS) of Cary, North Carolina, has signed a reseller agreement to become an authorized sales agent of NextBill, BTI's Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment (EBPP) system.

SMS, a provider of credit card processing, check guarantee services and electronic billing programs to businesses throughout the East Coast, will now add NextBill to its service offerings. With NextBill, SMS will be able to offer an electronic billing solution that enables billers to send bills and receive payments via e-mail.

"More and more companies are realizing the importance of offering their customers the convenience of electronic billing, but until recently they essentially had no alternative to the costly consolidator model." says Bob Kantin, BTI's Vice President of Marketing. "DAS realized the value that NextBill represents to not only the biller, but also the consumer."

"EBPP is the next hottest Internet growth opportunity," says Matt Sumrell, president of SMS. "NextBill gives SMS and its clients an opportunity to enter the EBPP race at the pole position."

Unlike the ‘consolidator' EBPP model, NextBill takes the direct route from the biller's accounts receivable system to its customers' e-mail in-boxes.

"NextBill provides our clients with the opportunity to retain their direct connection to their customers, rather than losing that opportunity to a third party bill processor," said Mr. Sumrell.
